Event Description:

On Thursday, April 19 at 9:00 a.m. Sarah Tegtmeier, Oil Programs Manager of Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research, Inc., Delaware, outlined an oil spill response involving wildlife, the effects of oil on wildlife, and Tri-State’s role as a wildlife responder, as part of Villanova’s 2012 Earth Day activities. Tegtmeier discussed the complexities of an oiled wildlife response and animal rehabilitation process, giving particular attention to the Deepwater Horizon crisis in the Gulf of Mexico in April, 2010. Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research managed and conducted that response. Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research is one of only two organizations in the country that can professionally manage a response to a major oil spill and has a trained staff on call 24/7 to respond to wildlife contaminated by oil spills anywhere in the world.
