The need for a vibrant intellectual voice in the U.S. and elsewhere has never been greater. Dr. Hollis and Dr. Nagy-Zekmi will discuss the ways their contributor s have participated in national and international debates about the role of intellectuals in Academe and the society at large. They believe their ideas will do justice to the complexity of the topic and will enrich the simplistic and polarized discourse that has come to dominate too many public discursive arenas. Silvia Nagy-Zekmi, Ph.D., is a professor of Hispanic and Cultural Studies, the Director of the Graduate Program in Hispanic Studies and the Director of the Cultural Studies Program. Karyn Hollis, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the English Department and the Director of the Concentration in Writing and Rhetoric. Coming together from two diverse educational perspectives, they co-edited the book, Truth to Power: Public Intellectuals in and Out of Academe.
