Communication

I am in Intro to Communications Research and working on my first assignment and I was looking for articles on the Communication and mass media EBSCO host database and found many articles that I would be interested in using.  I selected "Full Text" as a requirement, yet when I click on the articles Full Text, in the PDF format nothing shows up. It has a list of things on the left side but the center of the screen is blank gray and no text or document comes up. It almost seems as though the page hasn't loaded completely, but it has and still nothing shows up.  I was wondering if you could help me access these articles.

Answer

  1. There are a couple of problems that you may be experiencing.  Currently, the server that hosts our resources (such as Communication & Mass Media Complete) is being worked on by UNIT.  We hope that it will be fixed soon, but in the meantime please access library databases through our A to Z list, where a work-around is provided:

    https://library.villanova.edu/Research/Databases

When you find an article, if you click the PDF link to get full text, it should open in the same browser.  From you description, I think this is where you are experiencing a problem.  I suspect that this is a problem with your browser settings, and I have a couple of suggestions.

Why am I unable to view PDF full text when using Internet Explorer?

In order to view PDF full text in the PDF Full Text Viewer tool, ActiveX controls must be enabled in your browser.

Your Internet Explorer security setting must be set to Medium-High or lower for ActiveX controls to function.

Why am I unable to view PDF full text when using FireFox on a Mac?

If you are using FireFox on a Mac and running OSX 10.4 or higher, you will need to download a PDF plug-in in order to view PDFs.

The plug-in is free and is available at the following link:
    http://code.google.com/p/firefox-mac-pdf/

If, however, you are clicking the FindIt button, and then the Article link, it likely will not load because of the problem with the server.  Please let me know if you need help accessing any of these articles.

Please let me know whether this resolves your problem.
