Theology and Religious Studies

Student was interested in the theology surrounding the concept of White Anglo-Saxon Protestant (WASP) culture.

Answer

  1. Answer by: Poley, Darren G.

We discussed the Protestant Work Ethic and Nativism as examples of how to refine the research topic. I recommended she look not only for the works of E. Digby Baltzell who coined the phrase WASP, but to look for research on his work from the last 40 years. Since he was a sociologist she may need to search sociology as well as history and religion databases. Searching the subject terms: WASPS (Persons); UPPER class; SOCIAL change in EBSCO databases, was a good place to start.
