Creating a well formatted reference list using APA(American Psychological Association) style requires familiarity with the rules of the style. While the utilities imbeded in subscription databases, on free web sites, provided by the library catalog or RefWorks, a library subscription web based application for managing bibliographies, may be helpful saving time and energy, they do not substitute for the intelligent application of the guidelines for citing references. Due to errors in article database content and programming inconsistencies, you cannot expect to create a well formated APA reference list relying soley on RefWorks or database citation tools. Best practice is to use the online tools to generate a draft reference list. Proof and revise the list to ensure that your reference list consistently applies the APA guidelines. Consult the following sources to learn how to cite the many types of materials you need to attribute in your papers and presentatons.
