Are you still looking for a building for your project? Come to the library and browse the architecture section for inspiration. General architecture books are shelved on the third floor of Falvey. Start browsing around the NA680 call number. You will find books such as Contemporary World Architecture, Urban Design & Architecture: The 20th Century, Icons of American Architecture, and Architecture in the United States.

Don't forget the print reference collection on the second floor where you will find the Encyclopedia of American Architecture and the Source Book of American Architecture.

You can also start out with some simple keyword searches in the Gale Virtual Reference Center. Enter name of buildings, architects or architectural styles and movements.

Biographies

American National Biography Online
Biographical resource on more than 18,000 people from all eras who have influenced and shaped American history and culture.

Oxford Dictionary of National Biography Online
50,000 signed biographies of individuals who shaped all aspects of the British past, from the earliest times to the end of the year 2000.

American Architects and Buildings
Building histories, biographies of architects, elevation drawings, and more. The database can be searched by location, architect and building. Access to high resolution drawings and images is limited to subscribers and will not be available to Villanova students.

Biography in Context (Gale)
A comprehensive database of biographical information on nearly 220,000 people from around the world, and across all disciplines and subject areas and throughout history.

Falvey Library Catalog
The online catalog will lead you to biographies in books. Use it to look up biographies cited in the biographical dictionaries listed above. Use WorldCat (see Books) to discover biographies which are not available at Villanova University and request them via interlibrary loan.

The Library's catalog enables patrons to search & browse Falvey Memorial Library’s collection of books, journals, audio/video materials, electronic resources and more.

WorldCat (OCLC)
A catalog of library holdings worldwide. WorldCat will indicate any local library holdings and also offers an inter-library loan request option.

E-ZBorrow and Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary loans are only available for books and journals which are not owned by Falvey. The E-ZBorrow service can be used for books which the library owns, but which are currently checked out. E-ZBorrow books are provided by a local library network and tend to arrive faster than interlibrary loans.

Avery Index to Architectual Periodicals (ProQuest)
The single most important bibliographical research tool for research in architecture, urban design, historic preservation and urban planning history.

Art Full Text (EBSCO)
Art Full Text is a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts articles from periodicals published throughout the world. Full-text coverage for selected periodicals is also included.

Art Index Retrospective: 1929-1984 (EBSCO)
Indexes articles from art and architecture periodicals published from 1929-1984.

ARTbibliographies Modern (ProQuest)
Covers all aspects of modern and contemporary art, traditional fine arts of painting, sculpture and drawing. It incorporates abstracts of journal articles, books, essays, and exhibition catalogs and reviews.

JSTOR
A searchable and browsable archive of full-text core journals in the humanities, social sciences and mathematics. Use the Advances Search feature in order to limit to architecture and/or art journals.

Primary Sources

Historical New York Times (ProQuest)
Complete coverage from 1851 to the present with the exception of the most current two years. Includes classified ads, comics and cartoons, photos, maps, graphics, etc., editorials and commentary.

Readers' Guide Full Text Mega (EBSCO)
Readers' Guide Full Text is part of the Wilson OmniFile. It provides indexing and full text articles from both the popular press and peer reviewed journals.

Readers’ Guide Retrospective: 1890-1982 (EBSCO)
Provides citations to the most popular general-interest periodicals published in the United States and reflects the history of 20th century America.
