Description
Summary:Joynes was an assistant master at Eton who toured Ireland to see for himself the effects of Gladstone's Land Act and the Coercion Act of 1881. He met and travelled with the American radical Henry George, was arrested himself, and was present at George's arrest. Written from a strongly pro-Land League standpoint, this book provides a vivid eyewitness account of the period, particularly of counties Galway and Clare, and with a short chapter on a stay at Broughall Castle in County Offaly.
