Review by Library Journal Review

A street singer and a gangster compete for the attentions of a lovely young woman in Ren Clair's romantic vision of Paris in the Thirties. With fluid camerawork impressive for its time and a story replete with song, the film nicely captures the transition from the silent to the sound era. Alas, the source print is a bit rough in spots. The mono sound is a little problematic, too, but not enough to be a major distraction. For extensive collections. (c) Copyright 2010.
