Committee Purpose
The Falvey Library Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, in accordance with Falvey Library’s commitment to inclusion as stated in the Strategic Plan, will collaborate with stakeholders within the library and the greater campus community to provide support and guidance as outlined below.
Staffing
The Library’s DEI Committee believes that diversity in staffing is the best way to serve and represent Falvey Library, Villanova University, and the greater community. The DEI Committee will contribute to hiring and retention efforts by advising library leadership and recommending best practices where appropriate.
Collections
The Library’s DEI Committee strives to ensure that the resources we provide are accessible, representative of the diverse community that constitutes Villanova University and the wider community we serve, and reflect the Augustinian values of unitas, veritas, and caritas.
Environment & Services
The Library’s DEI Committee is dedicated to striving for equitable access to information, resources, space, and services. The DEI Committee will collaborate with library leadership and library staff on campus initiatives undertaken in coordination with the library on policies, best practices, and training.
The Falvey Library Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee will support these efforts by working closely with Villanova University’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, by staying abreast of standards and practices within the library community, and by following the constantly evolving dialogues around relevant topics in the global context.
Committee Composition
The DEI Committee is comprised of:
- A chair
- Members from each of the seven library departments
- Members of select committees including the Collection Management Committee and the Web Committee
There may be more than one member from any department, and members may be exempt or nonexempt, or full time or part time employees of the library.
