Resource Management

The Resource Management Center (RMC) encompasses the traditional functions of library acquisitions, cataloging, database management, serials, and electronic resources into one work group. Their primary responsibility is to keep the library collection vital and up to date by procuring new library materials and organizing them for easy and convenient use.

Acquisitions obtains monographic and serial library materials in most formats from publishers and vendors from around the world. Faculty may submit requests through e-mail, written notes, phone calls, or the Request Form on the Faculty Services web page. All faculty are encouraged to visit the RMC and check the latest acquisitions arriving weekly on the Approval Book Plan.

The Cataloging function provides descriptive data and organization for new materials in the Library’s online catalog, using bibliographic records derived from the OCLC database. The staff is responsible for updating the online catalog with current information to ensure consistency and accuracy of names and subject heading information for searching purposes. Problems concerning OPAC records can be reported to David Burke.

Electronic Resources and Serial Management

Electronic Resource and Serial Management has become a technical services growth area. It encompasses licensing, maintenance and troubleshooting access to the Library’s ever-expanding collection of networked serial and e-resources. Through the online catalog, various subject listings, and the A-Z Electronic Journal list, access is provided to online indexes, abstracting services, full text resources, and e-journals, most of which are not freely available on the Internet. Problems concerning electronic access can be reported to David Burke.
