Gathering market research reports, industry profiles and trade and business news is a good way for your entire team to get acquainted with your the economic, demographic, technology, political, natural and cultural environment impacts on your product/service category.

Syndicated research reports don't always align perfectly with your clients offerings.  You may need to glean what you can from broader or adjacent categories.

The company databases listed here provide key performance indicators and in some cases SWOT analysis on the whole company level.  Company and product/service news, not limited to press releases, and deep dives into web sites and social media are essential for discerning competitor strengths and weaknesses.

Offers market information, company quotes, equity index information, industry information (including the S&P Industry Surveys), and economic data.

Understanding Wound Care

Cultivating an evidence based understanding of wound care and infection is essential to designing a value based marketing solution.  You do not need a medical degree to do this but you do need to rely on medical evidence and not just questionable consumer health web sites.  The following list of medical databases offer access to quality health care information.

  UpToDate (Wolters Kluwer)  Access Instructions
Offers evidence-based medical treatment guidelines, clinical images, calculators, drug information, and patient information sheets. All content is physician-authored.

  Cochrane Library
Offers systematic reviews of healthcare interventions in support of evidence-based practice. Includes systematic reviews and methodology reviews, abstracts of reviews of effects, a central register of controlled trials, a methodology register, health technology assessments, and NHS economic evaluations.

  Trip Database
Provides access to evidence-based medical information in various formats: articles, images, videos, patient information materials, education courses, and news.

  PubMed  Tutorial
Offers indexing of journal articles and books in all areas of biomedicine. Worldwide coverage with an emphasis on English-language peer-reviewed journals. Developed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and currently maintained by the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

  Web of Science (Clarivate)  Tutorial
Provides access to the Social Sciences Citation Index, Science Citation Index Expanded, Arts and Humanities Citation Index, Conference Proceeding Citation Index, Book Citation Index, Emerging Sources Citation Index, Current Chemical Reactions, and Index Chemicus. Search for scholarly articles in any discipline, or for articles that cite a known author or work. Coverage varies.

Customer Analysis

In a business to business or business to professional marketing plan, customer analysis will rely more on learning about how many down stream demand industries and firms are operating and how they acquire their supplies.  Unlike in consumer marketing, the library will not have access to relevant subscribed consumer surveys.

Use industry reports and statistical search engines and sources listed below to find out how many hospital, ambulatory care or orthopedic physicians are in operation.  You may also want to search industry reports for "medical supply wholesaling"

news & Scholarship

Search general business news and trade associations for intelligence about market trends and competitors. Use the filters in ABI Inform, Business Source Premier and Nexis Unit to limit to trade publications.  Trade publications are often cited in industry reports and Statista infographics.

Scholarly research may be useful to support your marketing plan.
