Encyclopedia of Associations Trade and professional associations are networks of people that work together to advance their interests and careers.  Use this directory to identify associations related to your chosen discipline.  Explore their web sites.  Active members of professional associations are often willing to share information with students.  Call the association to find out if there is a section or interest group related to IT issues or if an officer or member has an interest in IT related issues.

Trade & Professional Publications.  Browse and search trade and professional newsletters, magazines, ezines and newspapers for tips and trends related to IT.  To identify trade and professional publications use ABI Inform, Proquest Career & Technical Education, Business Full Text or Business Source Premier for library subscriptions.  The Encyclopedia of Business Information Sources lists trade and professional publications, but does not provide full text.

Researching a Technology or Application

The following databases include high level technical articles on technology and IT topics.   In addition, search for mentions of your target technology or application in databases focused on your discipline or career.  For example, if your are interested in heathcare accounting, search Medline. Use our Subject Guides to find article databases geared to the practioners in your field.   Some databases allow you to  focus your search by looking for product reviews.  Use the free web to become familiar with application documentation, FAQs and user groups.
