Oxford Bibliographies - Atlantic History
Offers peer-reviewed, annotated bibliographies on a wide variety of topics concerning the Atlantic world.

Oxford Handbooks Online (Oxford University Press)
Introduces and surveys the state of scholarship in a field of study through review articles written by leading subject specialists. Articles review key issues and debates and set the agenda for new research.
Includes the Oxford Handbook of the Atlantic World and other relevant surveys.

Oxford Research Encyclopedia (Oxford University Press)
Offers peer-reviewed topical introductions and literature reviews written by well-regarded authorities. Available in selected subject areas. New topics are regularly added.

Books and Book Chapters

Books are an important source of critical literature. Take advantage of the search options offered by the library's catalog. Start with a keyword search and use the hyper-linked subjects to focus your search results. Alternatively, use available facets such as topic and language to narrow search results. Subject searches can significantly increase or decrease search results.

Keep in mind that today's Russia changed politically and geographically over time. Use the appropriate LC subject for different phases in Russian history: Russia - Soviet Union - Russia (Federation) - Russia. Books about communist Russia have "Soviet Union" as a subject, and so on.

Books & Media
Includes records of all print and e-books owned by the Library. Books that are currently checked out can be requested through E-ZBorrow or interlibrary loan.

Includes all books published in English as well as many foreign language works. Highlights publications available at Villanova University. Other items can be requested with a convenient link to an online request form.

JSTOR
Includes books and journal articles. This is only a small subset of what is published on any topic, but everything is available in full text online.

E-ZBorrow and Interlibrary Loan
Requests books and journal articles from other libraries. The E-ZBorrow service is limited to books while interlibrary loan requests can be used for books and journal articles.

Book Reviews

Book Review Digest Plus (EBSCO)
Indexes reviews of fiction and nonfiction English-language books. Reviews are selected from academic journals and library review journals. Includes selected full text. Coverage goes back to the early 1980s.

JSTOR
Includes book reviews published in academic journals. The most recent three to five years of a journal are usually not included.

Book Review Digest Retrospective, 1903-1982 (EBSCO)
Indexes reviews of fiction and nonfiction English-language books. Reviews are selected from academic journals, magazines, and library review journals. Covers reviews published between 1903 and 1982.

America: History and Life (EBSCO)
Indexes the literature covering the history and culture of the United States and Canada from prehistory to the present. Includes book reviews.

Historical Abstracts (EBSCO)
Indexes academic journals, magazines, books, book reviews, and dissertations that cover world history from 1450 to the present.

H-Net Reviews
H-Net Reviews are part of the H-Net online academic discussion network.

Journal Articles

The Library subscribes to a large number of history journals. Use the E-Journal Finder or the Articles file in the Library's catalog to look for known references. Request articles from journals that are not part of the Library's collections through interlibrary loan. The Library's blue Findit button serves as a bridge to the full text.

Indexes the literature covering the history and culture of the United States and Canada from prehistory to the present.

Historical Abstracts (EBSCO)
Indexes academic journals, magazines, books, book reviews, and dissertations that cover world history from 1450 to the present, excluding North American history which is covered in the companion index America: History and Life.

JSTOR
Provides a full text archive of academic journals and books in the humanities, social sciences, and mathematics. The most recent three to five years of a journal are usually not included.

Sabin Americana, 1500-1926 (Gale)
Offers digital access to books, pamphlets, serials, and other sources published worldwide from 1500 to the early 20th century and documenting the history of the Americas. Titles were selected based on Joseph Sabin's Bibliotheca Americana.

New York Times: 1851- (ProQuest Historical Newspapers)
Provides full-text access to the complete New York Times archive except for the most current three years. Use Nexis-Uni for access to current content.

American Periodicals (ProQuest)
Provides access to the full text of American magazines and journals published from the colonial period to the early 20th century.

British Periodicals (ProQuest)
Provides access to British periodicals published from the 17th through the early 20th century with the majority of content from the 19th century. Covers a broad range of topics.
