Handbook of North American Indians
Offers expert introductions to and overviews of all aspects of Native American history and life written by subject specialists. The series was conceived by the staff of the Department of Anthropology at the National Museum of Natural History and published over 44 years by the Smithsonian. Publication concluded with the first volume which appeared in 2022. Four originally planned volumes (16, 18-20) were abandoned and will not be published. Volume 1 is also available in digital format.
