 Major Resources

Biological Abstracts (Thomson Scientific / ISI Web Services)
Biological Abstracts is a comprehensive database that directs you to information covered in life sciences journals. Coverage begins 1969 to present.

PubMed was developed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). It was developed in conjunction with publishers of biomedical literature as a search tool for accessing literature citations and linking to full-text journals at web sites of participating publishers. Click for downloadable instructions.

**NEW** BioRxiv (pronounced "bio-archive") is a free online archive and distribution service for unpublished preprints in the life sciences. Articles are not peer-reviewed, edited, or typeset before being posted online. However, all articles undergo a basic screening process for offensive and/or non-scientific content.  An article may be posted prior to, or concurrently with, submission to a journal but should not be posted if it has already been published.

Zoological Record (Thomson Scientific / ISI Web Services)
Animal biology and biodiversity research literature.

Science Citation Index Expanded (Thomson Reuters)
Do geneaology searches forwards and backwards for cited references. Subject searching also on Web of Knowledge. Coverage begins 1945 to present. Click for downloadable guide to cited reference searching.
