Once paid, lost item replacement charges are refundable up to one year from the date of payment. The library reserves the right to replace a title in question with a different title as dictated by the needs of the curriculum and the collection. Unpaid accounts will be referred to the Bursar for collection.
Lost Item replacement Options
For Falvey Library items, a lost item can be replaced by the patron in lieu of payment. The replacement must have the same title, edition, binding, and ISBN number as the library item. If the same edition cannot be located, a newer edition of the book will be accepted at the discretion of library staff. The item must be in new or very good condition and must not contain any visible damage or marks of any kind.
A $30.00 non-refundable Processing Fee is also due with each replacement item.
DAMAGED MATERIALS FEES
Library users are responsible for reporting any damage to a book they check out from Falvey Library, at the point of checkout. Books returned in damaged condition will be carefully evaluated by library staff and may result in the addition of lost item fees/fines (shown above) to the user’s account.
Conditions that warrant the assessment of lost item fees/fines include, but are not limited to:
- Ink underlining, writing, or highlighting
- Torn pages or cover
- Chewed pages or cover
- Stained pages or cover
- Water/liquid/food damage to pages or cover
- Mold or mildew
- Scratched or broken media (DVD, CD, etc.)
Books returned with pencil writing or underlining, folded pages, or adhesive tabs may be subject to repair fines of $10.00 per book.
For Falvey Library items, a patron may submit a replacement copy in lieu of payment. See the section on Lost Item Replacement above. Interlibrary Loan and EZBorrow items are subject to the lending library’s policy.
